Darren West

Darren is an accomplished and highly experienced Development Engineer and Technical Manager who is able to rapidly build and adapt new technologies. His strong, versatile capabilities has earned him opportunities to work on diverse, complex projects with global companies and clients such as Microsoft Research Labs, Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe, Pixel Power and Polatis. Darren has led project teams to deliver all aspects of hardware and software development, system architecture, design and rapid prototyping.

Together with Hazel, Darren co-founded Seedlab Tasmania and Seedlab Australia. As the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Darren provides seamless operational and IT support for the various Seedlab programs and community. Darren single-handedly developed the Seedlab Academy, an online learning portal for over 300 Founders and manages the ever increasing number of content modules. He is also a content provider on technology, IP and general business management topics.

Darren is also an Adjunct Researcher at the University of Tasmania and his research interests include machine learning (ML), blockchain, and artificial intelligence (AI), especially when applied to agriculture and soil science.

When he not playing virtual reality games like Skyrim, Darren enjoys photography, beekeeping and walking. He is also deeply passionate about sustainabilty.

Darren holds a MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development, from the University of Cambridge, 1st Class BSc (Hons) in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from Loughborough University of Technology.

He is a Chartered Engineer (UK), Chartered Professional Engineer (Australia), and a member of Engineers Australia, Institution of Engineering and Technology and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.
